A World of Insects A WebQuest for First Grade (Science) Designed by Jean Veasey jean_veasey_2000@yahoo.com Even though insects--the largest animal group-- are often helpful to humans, they are not very popular. They have six legs. You will watch them run, walk, jump, dig and even sing. Insects are everywhere and you are going to follow them through the lesson.

Process Activity #1 View : http://www.pbrc.hawaii.edu/~kunkel/wanted/mugs/ Fill in list of 12 most wanted bugs on form provided by your teacher. Activity # 2 Visit web site: http://www3.guilford.k12.nc.us/webquests/insects/critterpage.htm and print copy of critter page. Complete the page and turn in for grade.Activity # 3 Go to the computer and open Kid Pix. Use the wacky pencil and draw a picture of an insect. Type two or three sentences about the insect. Select your colors, add grass, flowers and other objects to complete your picture. Go to the art center and make an insect from play dough. Use the materials in the art center to complete insect. View the examples provided in the center. Activity #5 Collect all of the pictures of the insects and make a class insect scrapbook. Make labels for the insects. Activity #6 Read and listen to tapes on literature selections about insects by Eric Carle. Activity sheets that relate to the books will provided in various centers.
