Introduction
     A caterpillar is born and is very hungry.  He is very hungry and starts eating.  He eats food every day of the week.  By the end of the week he is very full.  But now he feels very funny.  What is happening to him? 
     It will be your quest to discover what is happening to him and to become a caterpillar expert.



The Task

After reading the book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle as a class, work with your partner to discover the folowing:
 

  • make a list of the things that he ate each day
  • draw and describe the main character 
  • research facts about caterillars and their life cycle
  • draw the life cycle of a caterpillar to a butterfly


The Process

Follow these steps to complete your quest:
     1.  Read The Very Hungry Caterpillar as a class.
     2.  Make a list of things that the caterpillar ate each day.
     3.  Draw and describe the main character in the story.
     4.  Now you need to research real caterpillars.  Find out about the life cycle of the butterfly and caterpillar.
     5.  Talk with your partner about what you think the most interesting part of the life cycle is and why?
     6.  Draw the life cycle of the caterpillar and butterfly.
     7.  Use KidWorks Deluxe and write your own story about caterpillars and butterflies.
